Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss (SSNHL) SSNHL is commonly seen in audiology and otolaryngology practice. Individual present with sudden loss of hearing, tinnitus, vertigo, happing less than 72 hours of time. Hearing loss may vary from mild to profound and most often it is unilateral in nature. The majority of times an aetiology remain unknown. Prognosis depends on many factors like severity of loss, age, any other systematic conditions (i.e. Diabetes). Voice Disorders Voice disorders are medical conditions involving abnormal pitch, loudness or quality of the sound produced by the larynx and thereby affecting speech production. Ototoxicity (oto-means ear and toxic means side effect) Ototoxicity means certain drugs used to treat certain medical conditions in the body has a side effect on hearing or balancing organ situated in the inner ear. The effects of ototoxicity can be reversible and temporary, or irreversible and permanent. Hearing loss caused by this kind of medication tends to develop quickly. The first symptoms usually are ringing in the ears (tinnitus) and vertigo. Hearing usually returns to normal after you stop taking the medicine. But some medicines can cause permanent damage to the inner ear.
